Biography

“There is a very personal side to family law and dispute resolution. Everyone’s situation is different and we have to relate to our clients as individuals. We try to be practical and craft solutions specific to our clients’ particular needs.”

Garth is a highly experienced lawyer who has successfully argued before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada. While he will competently take on any dispute, he primarily assists clients with issues related to divorce and other family law matters, personal injury issues including ICBC claims, and collection matters.

He is known to resolve the toughest disputes, including those involving hostile parties that other lawyers will not take, whether the challenge is with the client or the opposing individual or lawyer. During his 27 years of practice, he has developed a skill for resolving the most complex and difficult matters, as well as straight-forward issues. Garth is equally effective whether arguing in the Supreme Court of Canada or in a collaborative, solution-oriented setting.

When a separation or divorce is imminent, or an existing situation requires renegotiation, Garth is highly skilled and works with both men and women equally. He works with both high net worth individuals and also those with fewer assets. He’ll prepare separation agreements, divorce documents, child custody agreements and will negotiate other necessary agreements on your behalf.

Whether you’ve had an accident in your vehicle, as a pedestrian, or experienced a work-place injury, Garth has worked in all types of accidents and injuries and can advance your matter in a manner that will bring you the greatest result.

If you are a business with outstanding receivables, there are legal mechanisms to recover this loss and also minimize it in the future. Garth uses his persistence and tenacity to recover your dated receivables to keep your business running.

He is a founding member of the Richmond Collaborative Family Law Group, which strives to achieve solutions for families without going to court.

He is also an arbitrator, mediator, and parenting coordinator; a highly skilled professional with extensive experience and training to help couples implement custodial, guardianship or access agreements.

Garth was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1984 and is a Partner of the firm. Garth is a patron of the arts and is a member of the men’s choir, Chor Leoni. He is a founding director and past president of the Richmond Concert Association and chair of the Richmond Gateway Theatre Endowment Fund. He is a member of and past president of the Richmond Sunrise Rotary Club and past assistant district governor for Rotary International.
